If the cable is new, try heating the nipple gently and let the nipple heat the cable - it's easier with a big soldering iron. I'm trying to do this for a bike cable but whenever I try I just end up with a massive blob of solder on the the outside of the brass. The orientation doesn't help, I've tried warming the brass with a blowtorch first. Whatever I do, it just doesn't want to go near the frayed cable strands. I'm using a general purpose, brown flux and the recommended solder.

ThanksConorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09897738959851043610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8162393339444825234.post-76705383597487793642020-09-15T01:53:57.094+01:002020-09-15T01:53:57.094+01:00This is great.

The 40 year old brake cables are going back on the bike (NO ONE makes any that are same quality now - which is confusing - and amazing); and I have to "make" the rest........ as nothing fits.

My bike is standard and common - so I wouldn't have thought that hard.

Anyway, great article - thanks.KJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17790368286715880986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8162393339444825234.post-67512662510285600412020-02-11T21:26:12.911+00:002020-02-11T21:26:12.911+00:00Excellent description, most helpful.
