Sheringham Classic Car & Bike Show

About this time in June, every year, Sheringham hosts the annual classic car and bike show. We've had a wander around most years and the Square Four has been to a few; this year son Thomas came, bringing the Huntmaster back to Sheringham from his garage in the city.

It's time for the 500 mile service and general checkover and the bike appears to be going well.

He says he has a list of jobs for me - some of which I'll do and some of which I'll quietly ignore...

It's quite mucky and appears to have leaked all of its fork oil over the rest of the machine. It's also smoking as it always has done but that really needs looking at.

He says the clutch is slipping - and it is adjusted rather too tightly. On entering the show the marshals made us ride at walking pace behind a Rolls-Royce Corniche which was quite testing for these air-cooled machines. When it came for departure at 16:00 the Huntmaster started straight away and I rode it home but it was clear that the Square Four clutch was slipping far too much to start the bike. I got the tools out in front of The Crown - the garden was packed full of people so I had an audience as I slackened off the clutch cable.

Fortunately that was enough to get sufficient torque through the clutch to kick it over and start it - which it did first time. It's slipping really badly and it's clear that it's been too tight like the Huntmaster one and that the slow ride through the town was too much.

Note to self here - keep enough play in the clutch cable!

2018 Classic Car and Bike Show

Last weekend saw some dry weather and the annual Sheringham Carnival Classic Car and Bike Show. We've attended a few of these before:

I'm quite surprised putting this post together that this is the 5th show we've attended - how time flies. This year was a good event - it didn't rain, and I had a chance to meet few enthusiasts I hadn't met before.

Here are this year's pictures:

Sheringham Classic Car & Bike Show

Well, its that time of year again. Sunday brought us bright sunshine, hoards of people, dozens of cars and a few motorcycles into our little seaside town for the annual Sheringham Carnival Classic Car & Bike Show.

Of course, I took Amelia for the first time this year. We were the second bike to arrive, after this lovely G2CSR Matchless which was in the same spot last year. I have a soft spot for these, and my own G2CSR has its own blog page.

Despite living about 300 yards from this parking spot, it took ages to get here. All those little lanes and that sunshine were too tempting, but I can report that the front brake is much better now and while not powerful has a good feel.

I took my Bantam as well, which needed a good polish up after the winter and a some general neglect. Sorry Beattie... She always attracts a lot of attention, and we had an eight mile run to get here:

Smart modern scooter:

Very nice 1974 Suzuki AC50:

Every year, a group of local ladies dress up and go about the town collecting for carnival funds & the RNLI. There is a different theme each year:

A nicely patinated C11 next to my Bantam:

One of the most modern cars at the show was this Tesla, which aroused much interest:

In case you were wondering what was under the bonnet of a Tesla
This Tesla Model S belongs to local artist Brian Lewis and is charged in his garage by solar panels. Brian's pictures are a delight enjoyed by many folks all over Norfolk and depict local scenes, towns, buildings, dogs & seals - all in Brian's inimitable style:

Brian's website is at http://www.art-e-mail.com/, which operates an on-line shop where you can buy prints of his work.

Here's a smart BSA SS80, and  a Vincent Comet:

Apparently this Comet has an electric start. The only give-away is the big red button on the handlebars and the owner's sheepish face when he doesn't use the kick start:

This Commando special appeared near the end of the day, and I followed it up our street. I'm not sure who was making more noise...

Next event is the NNR Transport Festival. Details at http://www.nnrailway.co.uk/page.php?pid=35. Beattie and Amelia will be there!

It's Show Time Again!

The day dawns bright & shiny for the annual Sheringham Classic Car & Bike Show, part of the Sheringham Carnival celebrations.

A few bikes this year and even less photos! Beattie, my Bantam in amongst some Ducatis:

A very nice Triumph

A BSA C12 - a local bike, but I don't know the chap that owns it:

Pussy Galore

Since the summer is here, it is time to take the Bantam to Sheringham for the annual Classic Car & Bike Show.

This is a Sheringham Carnival event organised by the The Lobster pub and every year the town centre is closed off and filled with old cars & bikes for a sunny Sunday at the beginning of June. From The Lobster website:

Our previous three shows were a massive success with over 200 cars attending each year, and each year it has grown; from a 1929 Austin Swallow to a Ferrari 308 GTS. So whether an enthusiast, owner or just on a family day out, a great day is to be had by all.

The main high street and sea front will be closed for the day in order to best display the vehicles. We can accommodate larger groups as well as individual cars and last year had representations from Bentley, Ferrari, Porsche and members of the North Norfolk Classic Vehicle Club. Also on display were MG, Mini, Jaguar, Rover, Triumph Stag, Trojan and Austin A7.

Promoted and organised by the Lobster Pub and raising money for the Sheringham Carnival, the aim of the weekend is to involve people who live and work here, helping foster a real sense of community and fun. Hopefully benefiting local businesses by attracting more visitors who will have such a great time they’ll want to come again and tell all their friends too!

It will be a truly enjoyable event for all ages. Our programme is hoping to include music, dancing, a real ale festival and of course the classic car and bike show.

It's on Sunday 9th June this year, and when the time comes I'll post some pictures. It's a great little show, and followed six weeks or so later by a Harley Owners Group meet, when 400 or so Hogs fill the town - and if you don't go for the bikes, go to the Lobster. It's a great pub and you can take your dog!
Nice Shooting Star at the 2012 Sheringham Classic Car & Bike Show

However, having taken the Bantam up this weekend, I was pottering around town when I stumbled across a couple of lost Panthers, lost in the back streets of Sheringham.

These friendly chaps were on a ride out from their rally meet in North Elmham, Naturally I took a few pictures:

Friendly Panthers on a rather too cool June morning...

More Panthers & nice Goldie

Nice to meet you guys!
